Ragnarok back open

Background

On 3rd May, Ragnarok crashed. Overnight it crashed multiple times – indicating something wrong. Initial measure included reinstalling all mods, running a steam patch/validation, wiping beehives, running windows updates, rebooting the server machine, and running checks with the datacenter. After this…. we temporality whitelisted Ragnarok for investigation.

Investigation

Since then, myself, jdab, JR, Eldyo and Mica and others have worked on testing and eliminating a lot of possible causes. We’ve tested every tame dino, found a bugged wild angler, confirmed it’s the world-file not hardware, eliminated problems with the mods. A big part of the problem is that the map crashes on world save… with no clear cause-&-effect relationship to any bugged element within the map. Huge thanks to all those players who helped testing the stability of our suspect, & everyone for being patient and supportive.

Result

We’ve narrowed down the probable cause, to a bugged soul terminal, or a soul within it. We have further narrowed it down, to being in one of 13 bases… 5 of which are admins. Further narrowing down could take days, so we’ve drawn the line here.

RAGNAROK IS NOW OPEN but for the next 5 days, treat it as a test. Be moderate in activities such as breeding and avoid taking your most valuable items into potentially dangerous places… consider the possibility that we’re wrong and it crashes. Fingers crossed… let’s hope not.

The following player tribes have had soul terminal removed. These are on the backup version on another IP, ready for further checking/testing. There’ll be some work to do, but we will recover and bring these back to Ragnarok – with quarantine and testing.
